Configure Client end of VPN

How to configure the client end of the VPN.
How to create a VPN connection from a home computer to office network.

  1. From the Start Menu, open the Control Panel. Then choose Network Connections and select Create a new connection.
  2. The Network Connection Wizard will appear. Click the Next button.
  3. Choose Connect to the network at my workplace., and click the Next button.
  4. Choose Virtual Private Network connection, and click the Next button.
  5. Type Company Name in the name field for this connection.
  6. Choose Do not dial the initial connection, and click the Next button.
  7. Type NetworkAddress in Hostname field, and then click the Next button.
  8. If you want this connection to be made available to all users on your network, check Anyone's use, otherwise check My use only. Then click the Next button.
  9. Check the Add a shortcut to my desktop if you desire. Click the finish button.
  10. In the Connect CompanyName VPN dialog box, enter your username and password and click the Properties button.
  11. Click on the Security Tab. Select Typical settings, Require secured password, and Require data encryption.
  12. Click on the Networking tab. Set the Type of VPN server to Point to Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP). Note: Perform the following steps through Step 12 only if you are on a Cable Modem, or DSL. Otherwise go to Step 13. Select Intenet Protocol and click on the Properties button.
  13. Check Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automtically. Click on the Advanced button.
  14. Uncheck Use default gateway on remote network. Click the OK button.
  15. Click the OK button.
  16. Click the OK button.
  17. Click the Connect button. When connected you will see a connection icon in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen.
